Anyone seen rotor tear off on these Whirlpool models?

My Whirlpool WFW95HEDW0 (around 8 years old) just quit spinning. The motor makes noise like it's trying, but the drum won't move at all. It rattles a little, then gives up. Doesn't sound like bearings going bad... usually you can still get some movement with that.

When I dug in, it looks like the rotor tore away from the cuff that connects to the drum spindle. Basically the motor's doing its thing, but the drum's not getting the message. Anyone else run into this? I'm debating if it's worth fixing or if this is one of those "time to scrap it" situations. Would appreciate any straight-up advice from someone who's seen this failure before.

yeah, that sounds exactly like a failed spider arm. It's the metal three or four pronged piece on the back of the inner drum that the motor rotor bolts onto. On many 5-10 year old front loaders, especially Whirlpool, the aluminum or pot metal spider corrodes and breaks off the central shaft

Replacement rotors and spindles aren’t crazy expensive, but getting everything apart can be a pain but yunno if the basket spider is still good, you could fix it, but for an 8 year old unit, most people would just replace the whole machine

Unless you're in love with that washer, this is a scrap it situation. the spider arm itself is cheap, but replacing it requires taking the entire drum assembly out, splitting the tub (which is usually sealed), and then putting it all back together. It's an all day, high labor, high frustration job that most folks regret starting

If the tub and everything else is good, I'd say fix it. But if you've had other problems or the machine has been rough, might be time to move on. What's your gut telling you? what did you end up doing @Ventus_Wielder
