I hope my dryer is still okay

I've had my 2022 Whirlpool WED5000DW for about 3 years, and my house has old wiring. Last week, the dryer made a buzzing sound and then shut off in the middle of a cycle. I looked at the plug and saw one prong was burned, and the outlet looked bent. I unplugged it and will call an electrician to check the outlet. The dryer doesn't smell burnt, and the drum still spins when I tested it. Has anyone had this happen before?

I have a 2021 Whirlpool WED5100HW. My dryer made a buzzing sound and stopped in the middle of a cycle. One prong on the plug was burned. The electrician said the outlet was loose and caused sparks. After changing the outlet and power cord, the dryer worked fine. Nothing inside was damaged. There's a high chance that yours is still okay!

Burnt prong = bad connection in the outlet but anyway, good call on stopping and calling an electrician. Once the outlet is fixed, the dryer will likely be fine since the drum still runs

I agree with the comments here, this happened to my aunt's older Whirlpool. What happened was the outlet had loose contacts and that burned the plug. Once her outlet was replaced and the cord checked, the dryer ran fine again.
