10-15 y/o Miele dishwasher that has a fill "open" error. Upon starting, I can hear the drain pump running for ~10 sec and when the program advances to the fill step the machine beeps and has the error.
The water valve under the sink is open.

Searches have identified several possible faults: fill valve, control board, etc. I thought the first step would be to check the resistance across the valve coil, and if necessary, replace the fill valve.

I pulled it out from the cabinet, put it on its side and removed the bottom panel (I tried to attach a photo but was unsuccessful). I thought the fill valve would be obvious, but it is not. I can see the fill line inside the unit (just behind the drain line), but it runs up to a plastic fitting that doesn't look anything like what I was expecting. It then travels up (to what is really the side of the machine) and behind a large plastic component. I loosened the screws on the side panel, didn't remove it but peeked in, and didn't see anything past the large plastic part.
Someone mentioned that the fill valve should be accessible from inside the tub, but I don't see how that's possible.

I thought before I start removing hoses and other parts of the machine, I'd look for advice from those who have been there before.

Can someone help me understand where the fill valve is, along with any suggestions on how to proceed?
