My Kenmore washer keeps filling

I have a Kenmore Elite HE3 washer, got it from a friend but it's more than 10 years old already I thin. recently, I've noticed a new problem. After the wash cycle is done, water keeps running into the machine from the detergent area. When I turn off the water supply to the washer it stops. But as soon as I turn the water back on it starts running again. The washer tub itself is not overfilling. I am thinking it might be the water dispenser valve. Does this sound like a problem with the valve? What else could it be?

@firetfire yep, that sounds like a bad water inlet valve. it has a solenoid inside that's supposed to completely seal off the water when the washer isn't running, but after so many years of use, the internal seal can wear out or get stuck open.
The fact that the water flow stops the moment you turn off the supply is a dead giveaway that the valve itself is the problem

If it’s coming through the detergent area even when the machine’s idle, that’s 99% a bad inlet valve. Control board problems are rarer like they’d usually cause it to fill nonstop during cycles, not after. I’d just grab a replacement valve online and do a quick install. Two hoses, a few screws, and you’re done.
