Disabling the Maytag commercial dryer buzzer

I have a Maytag commercial dryer - I know that on the new models, they have an on and off switch. With an infant the buzzer isn't horrible, but I would love to turn it off, for my own sanity.

I swore someone posts a video and showed how to turn it off.

Hey Hacksaw! I can give you some general guidance but will need the model number of your dryer to find a specific diagram. It's usually printed on a sticker inside the door frame area.

On most commercial dryers the buzzer's a small standalone component mounted behind the control panel. After you unplug the machine from the outlet you can typically access the area by removing the screws holding the top or back panel in place.

The simplest way to disable the alarm is to locate the buzzer and disconnect one of the 2 wires leading to it. For a less permanent option some people muffle the component with electrical tape to reduce its volume. A more involved solution would be to wire a small toggle switch in line with the buzzer power so you can control the sound manually.

I'm super new to this and just trying to quiet down a super loud buzzer on a used Speed Queen dryer I picked up. Is there any risk in just unplugging one of the wires? Also, how do I know for sure I've found the buzzer and not something else?

Hello, the same general advice applies to your Speed Queen dryer. As long as the machine is fully unplugged from the wall outlet, there's no risk in disconnecting 1 of the 2 wires to the buzzer. You should wrap the disconnected wire terminal with electrical tape to prevent any accidental contact if it's ever plugged back in. The buzzer is typically a small black plastic cylinder or box with 2 wires leading to it, often mounted to the control panel assembly. If you can provide the model number, I can find a diagram to confirm its location for you.
