I've got a KitchenAid ZDIC180 ice maker that's been running fine for 6years but recently water started pooling underneath it. I took the front panel of and spotted the leak coming from a blue pc on the left side which seems to be tied to the water supply. I shut the water off and the leaking stopped but I have no clue what this part actually does and neither do any of the parts diagrams I checked.

My in-laws however are convinced this is somehow my fault despite my very reasonable argument that I have not been secretly tampering with the ice maker. If I don't fix it soon, I may lose my standing as the family member who allegedly knows how to repair things. So does anyone know if this part is easy to swap out or am I about to disappoint the whole household?

I think the blue part is probably the water inlet valve, which can be a failure point after years of wear and tear. It can also be mineral buildup, so nothing that you did is causing this. Swapping it should be easy. Turn off the machine and the water and you'll find the valve behind the panel. Replacing the valve is as simple as screwing and unscrewing and you'll be good to with your family status

That's a relief to hear I'm not the mastermind behind my ice maker's downfall. If swapping the valve is just a matter of unscrewing and screwing, then I might still have a shot at keeping my title around here. Things just break after 6 years, especially appliances constantly dealing with water.
I agree that there's an issue with the water inlet valve. It's an electro mechanical valve that takes a beating.
The parts diagrams might just call it a water valve assembly.
They're designed to be replaceable, and usually, it's a pretty manageable job for a DIYer.
to get the right valve you need to get the full model number (it might have extra letters/numbers after the main part, like ZDIC180-01 or ZDIC180-B) and, if possible, the serial number off the unit's sticker.
Punch all of that into the parts website (like Repair Clinic, PartSelect, or AppliancePartsPros.com)

Already scoped out the sticker and found the full model number. Turns out mine's a ZDIC180-01. I ended up cross-checking a few parts sites and landed on a valve that matches the specs and layout. It's on its way now, should be here midweek. I'll swap it out once it arrives and report back if my household status improves. Thanks for confirming I wasn't losing my mind about the diagrams.

I have the same ZDIC180-01, and it's working great. I'm just happy we can still find parts for these things. That valve replacement sounds like a good plan. Fingers crossed that the swap is easy.

No drama, no leaks and yes, my in-laws have resumed treating me like the household repair oracle. For anyone else with a ZDIC180-01, I'd say if your leak matches what I described, the valve replacement is well within reach.
